The story so far
My name is Daniel Goodwin, I am a traditional blacksmith and I run Firehound Forge. My workshop is located in beautiful South Derbyshire, from where I travel out from as frequently as I can to trade and forge at events across the country.
Born and bred in Gloucestershire, I spent three years as an archaeologist in Ceredigion and another three training at the National School of Blacksmithing in Herefordshire. After graduating, I wandered the country as a journeyman for two years until settling down at my current forge in 2018. In 2021, I was awarded Journeyman rank by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths.
Coming from a background of archaeology, I take as much practical and artistic inspiration as I may from historical sources. There are few greater joys than holding an item made many years before and deciphering how and why the craftsman made it as they did. It's catching a glimpse of the past and is a rare and powerful thing.
I offer bespoke commissions made to your design or am happy to help develop an idea; lessons through my blacksmith experience days run at my forge in South Derbyshire; and live demonstrations and teaching at events on request. If I can be of any use, please don't hestitate to get in touch!
